Manchester has embraced sauna culture with enthusiasm, and The Good Sauna has been one of the names leading the way. Its wood-fired Finnish sauna sessions offer a social, outdoor take on wellbeing in the middle of the city.

The concept has its roots in Vancouver, where it began in 2023 with the idea of creating a social third space: somewhere that is neither home nor work, where people can gather, relax and connect. That ethos travelled with the brand when it arrived in Manchester.

The heart of the experience is a wood-fired Finnish sauna, paired with cold plunges for those who want to experience the bracing contrast of hot and cold. Reviewers have also described a fire-lit relaxation area where guests can rest between rounds, with complimentary herbal tea on offer.

Its Manchester home has been described in different ways. Manchester's Finest has placed it in Blackfriars, while Manchester Wire has reported a woodfired sauna experience at Club de Padel within Deansgate Square, and Treehouse Hotels has featured The Good Sauna in the outdoor space at Treehouse Manchester.

In an interview published by Treehouse, the team set out the thinking behind the brand, presenting the sauna as a new kind of social club where the focus is on sharing time together rather than simply ticking off a treatment.

That social side is built into the format. A Manchester Wire feature from December 2023 described community drop-in sessions for up to eight people, alongside private bookings for groups of up to ten, making it as suited to a catch-up with friends as to a solo reset. The emphasis on conversation and community sets it apart from a traditional spa, where silence is usually the rule.

Manchester Wire has also included The Good Sauna in its guide to the best saunas for wellness around the city, and Manchester's Finest has listed special events such as its Steamin' sessions.

Session times, locations and booking details are published online, and it is worth checking the latest information before visiting, as dates and formats can change through the seasons.
